The life span of an alpaca is on average 18 – 24 years

A fully grown alpaca can weigh from 60kg to 90kg and 85cm to 95cm measured to the top of the shoulder.

 

How long are alpacas pregnant for?

The gestation period for an alpaca is 11 to 11.5 months.

 

What is a baby alpaca called?

A baby alpaca is called a cria.

 

How much fleece does an alpaca produce each year?

Fully grown alpacas normally have a fleece weight of approx 3.5kg to 4kg.  At one year of age it is usually about 2kg.

 

What do alpacas eat?

Alpacas are grazing animals so their main diet is grass but ad lib hay is also given all year round.
